Where
did we get
the concept of a
halo in Christian
theology?

Halos? What halos?
I do
think there is evidence for halos in the Bible, but
not as envisioned by most artists. Revelation 10:1
describes an angel clothed in clouds and a “rainbow” over
his head. The angels that visited Ezekiel had what
he described as “…something like an expanse,
like the awesome gleam of crystal, extended over
their heads.” Ezekiel 1:22 (NAS) That could
very possibly be describing a glass-like helmet,
something worn by many of our modern-day visitors.

The golden calf idol replica
worshipped by the ancient Egyptians. Note the headdress
ornament matches that of Goddess Isis representing
fertility.
The
winged Egyptian goddess Isis predates Christianity
by over one thousands years. Note sphere over her
head which is a representation of the sun god, as
opposed to the Son of God.
Goddess
Isis with sphere suspended over her head,
Isis is usually winged. The winged, haloed goddess
is the precursor of the modern prevalent winged female
angel, which has little to do with the Bible's account.

Halos In Early ChristianArt first
appeared in the fourth century and artists were likely
enfluenced by the “nimbus” or “aureole” of
the Greeks (see god Neptune above) which predates Christianity
by several centuries.

to the 3rd century AD.- under St. Peter's Basilica,

The
earliest halos represented in Christian art
looked much more like glass helmets as the Early
Byzantine mosaic (above) illustrates.

By
the Renaissance period, halos were not reserved
just for deity and angels, but were applied to
the apostles (above) and Mary and other biblical
characters and eventually church officials and
notable good citizens.

High-Renaissance to
modern times- Halos eventually evolved to simple
ovals or flat discs over the heads of deity, angels
and clergy.
Sky Trumpets / Strange
Sounds / The Trumpets of God?
Editor's Comments
I'm
a skeptic by nature, so when I saw, or rather heard,
my first "strange sounds" video I thought it
would be too easy to create something similar with just
about any video or sound editing software and a cell
phone. Then I ran across the Canadian television affiliate
CTV video featured above. When I heard the Tampa Bay
Rays baseball game clip, with the announcers making reference
to the "supernatural" noises engulfing the
Tropicana Field dome, that clenched it for me. These
sounds, I like to call them, "Sky Trumpets," were
heard all over eastern Florida that evening.
And they continue to crop up around the globe at an alarming
rate.
This
is a new, legitimate phenomenon. What do these strange,
ominous sounds portend?

up your computer's sound to hear these properly)

sounds came in from all over Florida that
night. Google strange sounds Florida, and
you'll get the original, unless it gets pulled
by the NBL as I suspect it will.

Even
though no mention is made in Scripture about a pre-Rapture
warning trumpet, there are trumpets that will be used
by God in the Last Days. The seven trumpets of the Apocalypse
(Revelation) each announce certain catastrophic events.
How this all plays out has been the object of conjecture
for many years. There are many, I being among them, that
see events unfolding today that are without doubt part
of an End Times scenario, but do we understand them fully?
I think not. It would not be without precedent that we
may have missed this one. I think the evidence is mounting,
and if Christ is returning as quickly as many are predicting,
then this is a very reassuring sign for the believer.
To the nonbeliever,
all you have to do is Google the phenomenon and you will
quickly find an abundance of obvious fakes, along with
ridiculous mockery from pranksters who scoff at anything
other than their own small grasp of reality, to which
you can cling. It really frosts me when little minions
get in on the conversation and muck it up for everyone.
I noticed several videos claiming to be from other countries
which had identical sound tracks, especially a unique
Macaw sounding bird in the background. This may be a
purposeful effort to discredit the phenomenon. By whom,
who knows? For my take on this, I'll simply share some
excerpts from the book Aliens
& In-laws. If you'd like to participate in
a discussion of this particular phenomenon – along
with other subject matter – we're working on
our blog and forum currently, so be a little patient.
We'll have it online as soon as possible.

The
Trumpets of God
The
tremendous noise of billions of spacecraft,
combined in one gigantic sweep of the planet,
will be deafening. Although most modern
UFO encounters attest to only a humming or
buzzing noise – imagine this noise multiplied
millions of times across the entire planet
by spacecraft for as far as you can see in
any direction. The terrifying sound, in
my opinion, is referred to in Scripture as
the “final trumpet” announcing
Christ’s return. In the original
Greek translation, the word “trump,” or
trumpet of God, refers to a loud “vibrating
or quavering,” a very accurate and graphic
description of the sound that would undoubtedly
be made by these great numbers of HFOs (Heavenly
Flying Objects).
The maneuvering of so many craft near the Earth’s
surface will represent quite a feat, but don’t
worry, God doesn’t make mistakes. These
soldiers and pilots will be well-trained. The
spirits of those who died during the Tribulation
Period for Christ’s witness will be resurrected
to be with Him, and then those living persons
who have remained faithful to the Gospels during
the Tribulation Period will be gathered up,
unharmed, but the wicked shall be destroyed.
That’s a promise from God:
I
THESSALONIANS 4:13But
I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep [dead],
that ye sorrow not, even as others which have
no hope.
14 For
if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so them also which sleep in Jesus will
God bring with him.
… I CORINTHIANS 15:51Behold,
I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed,
52 In
a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at
the last trump: for the dead shall
be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For
this corruptible must put on incorruption, and
this mortal must put on immortality.
… I THESSALONIANS 4:15 For
this we say unto you by the word of the LORD,
that we which are alive and remain unto the coming
of the LORD [i.e. after
the pre-tribulation Rapture] shall not
prevent them which are asleep.
16 For
the LORD himself shall descend from heaven with
a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with
the trump of God: and the dead in
Christ shall rise first:
17 Then
we which are alive and remain shall be caught
up together with them in the clouds to meet the
LORD in the air: and so shall we ever be
with the LORD.
18 Wherefore
comfort one another with these words.

An
Eerie Light Encompasses the Earth
As
the armada nears the Earth’s surface,
their sheer numbers will cause the sun and
moon to be blocked out, but the glow of the
HFOs themselves will give off an eerie light
so that even the nighttime will be dimly lit:
ZECHARIAH 14:6And
it shall come to pass that day, that the
light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7But
it shall be one day which shall be known
to the LORD, not
day, nor night: but it shall come to
pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
A single long blast
to praise God also an awakening blast.
2.
Shevarim
Hebrew
for "Broken"
True repentance is
only possible when someone is broken before God.
It consists of three short blasts symbollic of the
trinity.
3.
Teruah
Hebrew
for "Alarm"
To alert the hearer
to danger or to announce an event. It's a series
of 9 short blasts.
4.
Tekiah Gedola
Hebrew
for "Last Trumpet"
or
"Great Blast"
This
is the loudest of the shofar blasts and will be used
to announce the return of Jesus Christ for His final
judgement. It is one long blast beginning with a
low pitch and followed by a change in several octaves
to a high pitch.
I've
listened to these Sky Trumpet sounds many times,
and am left with one conclusion: most of them sound
like the Tekiah Gedola, with its low-to-high pitch
resonance. They certainly aren't a series of quick
blasts or the three sounds of Shevarim. What does
that mean? The Last Trumpet in the book of Revelation
is called the Great 7th Trumpet which is heard
at Christ's return to setup His millennial reign
on Earth. How much time left? None!
What are
these mysterious Sky Trumpets trying to tell us?
Look up...or look out!
The Rapture
This
event is described as the time when Christ will return
for His Church (His faithful followers) so that they
may escape the terrible catastrophies that befall the
wicked inhabitants of the Earth. The word “Rapture” is
not mentioned in Scripture in its modern nomenclature,
but this is the title used by many Bible students today
to describe this great “catching away” of
the Church. The actuality of an all-out invasion
on mankind by the heavenly realm, however, is mentioned
in Scripture in many places. The chronological time frame
of the catching away of the Church has been debated in
many quarters, but I see the event clearly in Scripture.
It must happen prior to the seven year Tribulation Period
in order for the following passage to have validity.
Jesus said:
ST. LUKE
21:34 “And take heed
to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts
be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness,
and cares of this life, and so that day come
upon you unawares.
35 “For
as a snare it shall come on all them that dwell
on the face of the whole earth.
36 “Watch
ye therefore, and pray
always, that ye may be accounted worthy to
escape all these things that
shall come to pass, and to stand before the
Son of man.”[ Underlines
added for emphasis]
Clearly,
those who are judged worthy shall escape the
Tribulation curses. The Tribulation Period is
described as such a destructive time that it
is impossible to imagine Christians living in
its midst and not recognizing it as such. In
order for a people to be caught by surprise,
the time preceding the Rapture must be one of
relative peace and well-being. Isaiah described
events surrounding the Rapture of the Church
in the following passage:
ISAIAH 5:26 And
he will lift up an ensign to the nations
from far, and will hiss unto
them from the end of the earth*: and,
behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:
27 None
shall be weary nor stumble among them; none
shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the
girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet
of their shoes be broken:
[ Underlines added for
emphasis]
* i.e.
from the heavens, or what we call outer space.
The
angels of heaven will come swiftly and they will "hiss" from
very far away, while still in deep space "from the
end of the earth". A massive flotilla of HFOs would
likely produce some kind of electromagnetic interference
and perhaps infrared signals (and even more), which
would register as a hissing noise on earth's detection
devices such as the CCDs in our telescopes measuring
higher frequencies such as infrared light, gamma rays
or x-rays, and with radio dishes such as S.E.T.I. (search
for extraterrestrial intelligence) which are "listening" for
anything unusual from space, primarily in the lower radio
wave spectra.
Verse 27 tells us
that the angel's invasion and confrontation with mankind
will be without much effort because the normal stresses
of war won't effect them. They won't even break a shoelace
or mess up their other-worldly battle kicks!
